Memphis 1916
This Map is a portion of the 1916 Department of the Interior U.S. Geological Survey Tennessee/Arkansas Memphis Quadrangle (1927 Edition, 1932 reprint).
Of particular interest is the Harahan Bridge, whose western approach has yet to be completed. The Missouri Pacific rails have been extended their track beyond Bridge Junction, but have not yet reached the new bridge and the Rock Island connects with the Frisco where the two lines cross. The Rock Island, Cotton Belt (via the RI) and Missouri Pacific all used the Frisco Bridge until the Harahan was completed.
The Rock Island's track still extended to Hopefied Point, where it connected with ferries to and from Memphis. A dotted line indicates the ferry were still in operation. A similar operation existed with the Frisco at West Memphis.
Evidence of the Rock Island connection with the Frisco and the the right of way to Hopefield point can still be seen in aerial photographs.
